Why are Reddit users such Assholes?

Too many good sites are being demoted into oblivion on Reddit.

The theory is simple. Promote stuff you like and demote stuff that is stupid. But, what if the users demote things on a whim or according to technosnobbery?

I suspect some of the users of Reddit to be ubergeeks with zero social skills and are doing it for kicks and to promote self-esteem. Sure there are assclowns that demote posts around their own to make theirs look better, but I think most of the 'over-demoters' are intent on rating every single post to their own standard. Like demoting anything about Google or Bush.

So should there be a standard?
Surely not. Impossible to establish. Impossible to enforce. Sure death of Reddit.

What's the answer?
Reddit should employ an "IGNORE" option in between the up and down arrows on each post!

Each user should remember that every post does not have to be rated. Just because you clicked on something, doesn't mean you have to rate it. The key is to let it go. No opinion and no comment is just fine.

Are you a Reddit asshole? Take a pill and chill.

Discuss amongst yourselves and of course feel free to ignore it.

I was thinking about this idea in the last days.I think the best for all of us is to be onest when you press that arrow, not pressing it just for fun.

There is an ignore feature, simply click the 'hide' link towards the right hand side of the article title

Should have been more explicit. I don't think most people use the 'hide' option, because it's just not close enough to the arrows.

I, for one, was also somewhat confused over what "hide" is there for. It really ought to be re-labeled "reddit" or something.

Or they should provide the option to auto-hide visited links.

yes autohide option is needed , however i think that they plan on doing this soon . I also noticed that even if some sites get credited and end up with many visits, many sites on reddit never get noticed as it should be because of this issue.
